  • Blair School of Music 2400 Blakemore Avenue Nashville, TN, 37232 United States (map)

David Zerkel
Professor of Tuba and Euphonium, University of Michigan with Liz Ames, piano
Thursday, September 11th
Masterclass — 1:15-2:30pm, Choral Hall
Recital — 6pm, Turner Hall

Zerkel says about the program, “The fabulous Liz Ames and I will present a program in the fall entirely based upon our friends in the animal kingdom. My extraordinarily talented brother Tim has created 32 wonderful illustrations for each of the movements of this program.

There will be two new world premieres: Jim Stephenson's brilliantly witty follow up to Wilder's classic Effie Suite-- The Further Adventures of Effie. This piece has Effie pursuing some more decidedy 21st century pursuits (Effie Swipes Left, Effie Goes to Therapy, Effie Goes Clubbing, etc.) The other premiere will be by my dear friend James Naigus, who has composed a piece based on the characteristics of seven dog breeds called "Woof!". The piece is lovely and reflective of James' beautiful language.

Also on the program:
Plog- Animal Ditties IX
Defaye- Suite Marine
Wilder- Suite no. 1 for Tuba and Piano, "Effie the Elephant"
